This view shows ground from about the same location as, but a little to the right of, view 1. At the far left of the view is the stone observation tower at the sunken road, that was built in the 1890's (about 1.9 km away).

What should be apparent from this view is that observation of the battlefield from this location is difficult under any circumstances. Add any haze of battle smoke, and one gets a sense of the difficulty of directing a battle at this distance. Nonetheless, General McClellan was content to remain near here for the duration of the battle.
